Minstead Lodge provides registered accommodation for up to 16 adults (over 18) with learning disabilities. Individuals stay at the Project for varying periods of time, depending upon their needs:

  • Some are residential
  • Some are progressing through the One-Year Independent Living Skills Residential Course (ILSRC)
  • Some are on respite stays

Each student has their own comfortable and spacious room in ‘flats’ which have a kitchenette and bathroom shared with one or two other students. Each flat also has a lounge, and the main house has several other shared areas.

Midday meals are occasions where students, staff and visitors gather to share company, food and laughter.

Residential students prepare their own breakfast and some evening meals, under the supervision of Independent Living Skills instructors or Key workers.

During the day students take part in some of the many activities available at the Project.

Each student has a learning programme designed specifically to address their needs. This will include a combination of experiences to ensure that they enjoy a mixture of independent living skills instruction, work skills training and leisure time. If appropriate, students are helped to access local college courses and supported employment.

As individuals progress they may have the opportunity to move to another flat in Minstead Lodge where a reduced level of supervision encourages greater independence.

Some students progress to more independent living, renting accommodation nearby, supported in the community by our team of Support Workers.

The aim of our Intensive Independent Living Skills Residential course is to enable individuals to gain the skills and understanding over the period of one year to enable them to move on and live happily and successfully in a supported living environment.

The outcome of this one year residential course will be a planned move to supported living for each individual, with a clear indication of their abilities and support requirements.

Minstead Training Project welcomes individuals to stay with us to give them, and carers, a rest from caring. Respite places are offered only after a visit to the Project and once it has been agreed that our service is suitable for the client.
